Transparency Act
Statement on the Transparency Act
Golightly AS
The Transparency Act entered into force on 1 July 2022 and aims to promote respect for fundamental human rights and decent working conditions in the production of goods and services. The Act also aims to ensure that the public has access to information about how businesses deal with any negative impacts, through due diligence reports in accordance with the Act. Golightly AS is subject to the provisions of the Act and has implemented measures and carried out due diligence assessments to meet the requirements.
The business
Golightly AS is a Norwegian online store that offers clothing, shoes and accessories for women and men. The company's operations are located with both warehouse and administration in Trondheim. The company was started in April 2021, and established/founded on 02.02.2022.
Since our inception, Golightly has been aware that we operate in an industry that can carry risks of negative consequences for people, the environment and society. Through a conscious approach, we have actively worked to reduce these risks by conducting regular evaluations and implementing measures that address the challenges in the best possible way.
Golightly produces its own clothing and jewelry at a family-owned company in China, as well as shoes at a family-owned company in India. With fears of violations of basic human rights and decent working conditions, we have personally visited the factory several times to ensure that everything is in place for good and safe production. We place great importance on the selection of factories, fabric manufacturers and partners to maintain a good and open collaboration with a focus on people, the environment and society.
Anchoring and accountability
We are continuously working to obtain information from our factory to reduce the risk that goods sold through our online store do not meet the requirements for basic human rights and decent working conditions. Golightly AS does not want to offer products that do not meet these requirements, and therefore focuses on cooperation with established factories, manufacturers and partners who have strong routines and a conscious attitude towards this in their own business.
We are aware that the clothing and footwear industry is associated with risk, and therefore it is important for us to make it clear that this is a major priority for us as a manufacturer and online store.
The Finance Manager at Golightly AS is responsible for ensuring that the company performs due diligence at all times. All our employees are well aware of the requirements of the Transparency Act and work to ensure that we only work with factories that meet the requirements for human rights and working conditions. The Transparency Act is discussed as a topic in management meetings and is reviewed annually by the board.
Due diligence assessments and measures
Since we have visited the factories ourselves in person and asked questions about production in accordance with national laws and UN human rights, we are satisfied with the current choice of production. If anything changes or we learn that this is no longer the case, we will continuously evaluate whether to end the collaboration.
We are continuously working on new and better solutions that are better.
Various measures we have taken:
- Large shipments are sent by boat or train, rather than by plane.
- Shipments to customers are sent in recyclable cardboard, rather than plastic.
- Repairing defective products so that they can be sold.
- Reuse of plastic packaging in which the products are delivered.
- Continuous work towards having good qualities.
- Solution for customers to pick up orders themselves rather than sending them by post.
- Visits factories regularly to ensure good products and quality, but also that basic human rights requirements are met by workers.
The work on the Transparency Act is an ongoing process. We consider our proven choices a good start, but we all have a way to go to create better sustainability and human rights.
